The Foundation of Good Dental Health

At TenderCare Dental, we emphasize the best in preventative care to help your children maintain healthy smiles that last a lifetime. Getting children comfortable with the dentist is the first step to achieving this goal.

We encourage parents to bring their children in for an initial appointment as early as two years of age. This allows your children to feel comfortable in the surroundings, meet the dentist and staff, and provide a positive experience so that they will want to return for dental exams, teeth cleaning and treatment. At this appointment, your child will be allowed to sit in the dental chair, wear sunglasses, be introduced to the tooth polisher and x-ray machine, and receive a special treat – such as a pencil or balloon – at the end of the appointment.

Your Child’s First Dental Visit

After the introductory visit, TenderCare Dental dentists and staff like to see children twice a year for regularly scheduled teeth cleanings and oral exams. Your child’s teeth and gums will be gently examined and thoroughly cleaned. X-rays may be taken to reveal decay and evaluate the development of your child’s permanent teeth under the gums.

After cleaning your child’s teeth, we may apply topical fluoride to help protect against decay. We will also ensure that your child is receiving adequate fluoride at home. Most important, we will review with you how to clean and care for your child’s teeth.

Prepare for Your Child’s First Visit

It’s essential to provide a positive experience for your children’s dentistry visit at TenderCare Dental, and one way to do this is to prepare them. Check out books and videos from the library about going to the dentist. Talk positively about your own dental experiences, and discuss with your children what will happen as they visit the dentist.

At TenderCare Dental, we look forward to partnering with you to lay a strong foundation of good dental health in your children!
