It’s June, and for a dentist in Portland, OR like me, there’s only one thing that is on my mind…..dental insurance! It’s probably not the answer you would expect, since June brings with it the Portland Rose Festival, high school and college graduations, summer vacation, and hopefully summer weather as well.
So let me explain. Dental insurance typically runs on a calendar year that started on January 1st of 2013 and expires on December 31st. In most cases, insurance covers 80-100% of the cost of 2 exams, cleanings, and necessary x-rays per year, but this is where it gets tricky. They have to be spaced 6 months plus 1 day apart!
Here’s the secret to getting the most from your dental insurance… if you haven’t been to the dentist yet to get your teeth examined and cleaned this year, June is the month to do it! Doing this now allows you to take full advantage of your insurance benefits and get your teeth cleaned in June and again in December. If you wait until July, in most cases it will be the only dental exam and cleaning that your dental insurance will cover this year. If you had a gift certificate that expires on December 31st of 2013, you would use it right? Well dental insurance is no different. So call us today at one of our 9 convenient TenderCare Dental office locations and keep your smile looking and feeling great.
