Dr. Justin Marostica, who is a local Tigard Dentist, participated in the 2nd annual Tigard Compassion Clinic held at Tigard High School. Compassion Clinics offer medical, dental, chiropractic, vision, and even haircuts to the uninsured and those that qualify based on income. It was created in 2006 and is led by a local collaborative of churches as an outward expression love to those that are not as fortunate or who are struggling to make the ends meet. The love just happens to come in the form of free basic medical care and social services.
Every person, doctors, dentist, dental assistant, and hygienist donated their time from 8 am to 3 pm at Tigard High School. Perspective patients are then screened and health needs verified. They are then able to see either a medical doctor or dentist. “Basically, it is a one stop shop for all your medical needs,” said Dr. Marostica.
This is the second year that Tigard Dentist Dr. Marostica has participated in the dental clinic. He a long with over 10 other dentists provided basic dental care like cleaning, x-rays, fillings and extractions. Dr. Marostica alone did over 20 fillings and multiple extractions. Select patients, based on need and time, were even fitted for dentures or able to get a needed root canal or wisdom tooth removed. There was no lack of man power at the Compassion Clinic thanks to Oregon Health and Science University Dental School, who provided dental students to help coordinate patient needs and treatment.
Dr. Marostica, the primary dentist at TenderCare Dental in Tigard suggests that, “…this is the greatest single medical event in Tigard. To be able to serve this amount of people in that amount of time is amazing!” Dr. Marostica goes on the explain, “This was an easy decision for me to make (donating his services). This community has given me and TenderCare so much! For me to give 8 hours of my time to fix teeth is great!”
Compassion Clinics are held in many cities in Oregon and Washington. The next Compassion Clinic will be October 19th at th Bethel Community Church, 1438 B Street, Washougal, WA offering medical only.
