5 Ways to Keep Your Resolutions

Research shows that 45 percent of Americans make New Year’s resolutions, but only a surprising eight percent fulfill them; furthermore, 25 percent don’t even make it past the first week. Here at TenderCare Dental, we believe that sustainable transformation and health happens through a consistent effort. The best way to do this is through a combination of inspired intentions and daily action.

Everyone likes a fresh start, especially when the New Year begins. But most people don’t stick to their New Year’s resolutions, for too long. If you find that your resolutions are hard to stick to, these tips can help.

Here are 5 ways to make sure your New Year’s goals come true.

1. Dive Deeper
What is really driving your goal?
Make sure you are setting goals with clearly defined intentions. Many people have health goals, but they forget to align with their reasons why. Spend a little time connecting with your goals and understanding what is driving them. Set an intention that you feel empowered by.

2. Let Go of the DO and Focus on the BE
Instead of this: I will not eat food that is bad for me.
Change it to this: I am strong, healthy and happy. I choose healthy food that makes me smile.
Many of us focus on what we have to do – I have to work out every day, or I have to cut out all junk food – but if you focus more on the feeling of wellness and how you want to be, you can achieve your goal faster.

3. Share Your Vision
Most of our patients enjoy sharing their health goals with us. We encourage them to share because it helps make you more accountable. If you are focusing on a goal and holding it to yourself, you could slip up. But sharing it with friends, family and your dentist and doctor can help you achieve long lasting results.

4. Measure It
Have a goal that you can measure. This will help you know you are achieving success. Pick a progress point so you can check in. This will help you reach your goals faster.
Instead of this: I will lose 10 pounds.
Make it this: If I lose 5 pounds by February 15, I am showing up as the person I want to be.

5. Consistency is Key
Being consistent is essential for lasting success. Just like brushing your teeth every morning and evening, you can establish healthy new goals in the same manner. The more you do it, the easier it will become. If you feel like your new goal is a chore, change it to be more rewarding. The key to lasting success and reaching new health goals is fun. When you make it fun you will always win.

That is why our dentists always have fun and love what they do. We don’t just clean teeth, we create moments. Smiling through life is one of the best ways to enjoy it.
